The Story of the Two Arrows
A teacher asks his students, "What would happen if a man was struck by an arrow?"
His students reply, "Pain and bleeding." The teacher then asks his students, "What would happen if he was then struck by a second
arrow?" His students yell, "Worse: Suffering! Despair! Agony!"
The teacher replies, "The first arrow is pain, and it is inevitable. The second arrow is suffering,
and it is optional."
The lesson we derive from this story is that pain is part of the natural course of life. We all get struck with an arrow or arrows during the course of our lives. At Second Arrow, we are here to help you work with and rise above the pain; to help you become as independent as possible when walking or rolling through this world. That second arrow, the suffering, is optional, unnecessary, and we work together towards the challenge of acceptance and letting go often best done through regular community and safe activity.
